Chuchunaa Character Design - Latitude 76: Land of the Onkilons

Excited to present my creature design work I’ve done for Latitude 76: Land of the Onkilons by Anisimov Games. It’s an adventure game inspired by the real-life story of the 1900-1902 polar expedition. The game tells the story of brave explorers who set out to prove the existence of a phantom island in the Arctic Ocean.

Chuchunaa are one of the main factions of indigenous inhabitants of the island. These savage hunters serve as one of the primary threats to Captain Kalb's expedition. Their designs were mainly inspired by cro-mangnons/cavemen and chimps. They have a cult of blood, violence and sacrifice, and worship the scary blood god.

In collaboration with the Game Designer, I have developed several calsses of this faction, each with unique combat mechanics, attack patterns and visually distinct designs. While only the lowest class is currently implemented (shown here), the design framework allows for future expansion as development progresses. Stay tuned for concept sketches of the unused classes in upcoming posts!
