Cave painting decals Prop/Environment design - Latitude 76: Land of the Onkilons

Excited to share work I’ve done for Latitude 76: Land of the Onkilons by Anisimov Games. It’s an adventure game inspired by the real-life story of the 1900-1902 polar expedition. The game tells the story of brave explorers who set out to prove the existence of a phantom island in the Arctic Ocean.

These are the decals for cave paintings at Chuchunaa altar. They depict a local evil god Chuchunaa worship. It demands regular sacrifices. I’ve added some additional lore into them; the paintings also feature:
- Two Chuchunaa sacrificers cutting up a body, the other Chuchunaas feasting on the organs
- Chuchunaa bowing to their god in worship
- Their conflicts with another, more human-like local people indigineous to the island
- Mammoths and goats – parts of the local fauna, perhaps main sources of food other than sacrifices
- Handprints symbolise their absolute devotion to their god, it is an honor among Chuchunaa to leave theirs on the altar. One print symbolises one soul, and each soul sacrificed goes to strengthen the god, whose influence and power is everywhere (symbolised by stripes spreading outwards)

Second sketch after the altar shape was revised by the level artist. I adapted the best of the initial ideas, scrapping some of the more irrelevant once.

Initial idea for the altar. It was scrapped later. My job was to design the paintings based on the environment provided by level artist.
